Frequently asked questions

Test orders and Preparation

Q: How long does it take to get my lab results?
A: Most routine results are sent to the physician within 24 hours of collection but some complicated tests may take much longer.

Q: Am I able to order my own lab tests?
A: Most lab tests are ordered by a physician, however we offer some lab tests directly to individuals through our service, CompuNetDirect. We advise all patients to discuss their lab results with their physician.

Q: Can I call you to get my own test results?
A: To request a copy of your doctor ordered test results, print the Patient Access Form, complete it, and mail it to: Attention: Client Services, CompuNet Clinical Laboratories, 2308 Sandridge Drive Moraine, OH 45439. If you have ordered your own lab tests through CompuNetDirect, you will receive your test results in the mail. We recommend discussing all lab test results with a physician. Your physician is always the best resource for information about your lab test results.

Q: Can medicine interfere with my test results?
A: Yes. To ensure accurate results, be sure to inform your physician of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine you are taking.

Q: What is fasting and do I need to fast?
A: Fasting means that you should not eat or drink anything but water before having a lab test, for usually 8 hours or more. Your physician will tell you if you need to fast and, if so for how long prior to your test. Common tests that require fasting include lipid tests, glucose tolerance, and iron studies.
